The purpose of this paper is to solve the crisis of modern life and to look for the answer of well living. We will try to find out the answer of well living in Lao-tzu's thought. To achieve the goal, we will investigate the following topics. First, the characteristics of modern society and the contradictions of modern life will be analyzed. We will describe the modern society as the crisis society, the anger society, and the competition society, and the modern life as the life of struggle, the life of desire, and the life of alienation. And to solve the contradictions of modern life, we will look for the life of non-struggle, the life of freedom from desire, and the life of self realization. Finally, we will discuss the meaning of the exploring the answer of well living in Lao-tzu's thought.

This study aims to explain that overcoming and emptying ego must be a goal of new era education. The modern education get lost between vocation education and disappearing of jobs that came from automation. Yet our education couldn't come out from the paradigm of benefit and loss. In Confucianism there were benevolence and righteousness paradigm. In this paradigm overcoming and emptying ego is absolutely necessary. To overcome and empty the ego we must let go all our thoughts and emotions. The letting go of thoughts and emotions will lead us to new human beings, that is love being. This is the road that our education aims to.

These days school has faced a lot of serious contradictions called the classroom collapse such as suicides, bullies, maladjustment, school refusal and so on. What causes these contradictions? Also is there no way to solve the contradictions? This writing’s purpose is to introspect what the korean educational problems are. It focuses on the Juja’s educational thoughts. He is the most representative theorist in East Asia. He criticised the educational environment openly about his time and dreamed of redefining the view of study and education. It concentrates on analysing his educational thoughts, especially the theories of human nature based on the theory of human Good nature, new learning community for renewal of Seowon and criticism of Gwageo System. Also it tries to look for a suggestion for today’s our education through the Juja’s education thought. In other words, this writing’s main point is not to analyze the characteristic or meaning of Juja’s educational ideas but to search for alternatives based on the reality of Korean education by Juja’s educational thoughts.

Robert N. Bellah has been internationally known for his works related to the sociology of religion. Actually he was the author of “Tokugawa Religion”, “Religion and Progress in Modern Asia”, “Beyond Belief”, “Varieties of Civil Religion”, “Habits of the Heart”. “Religion in Human Evolution” etc. which were celebrated works as famous as Max Weber's sociology of religion. But unexpectedly Bellah have not well notified relatively by now in Korea. The Purpose of this study is to display the whole aspect of Bellah. For this, this study looked into the Bellah's viewpoint of the interaction between religious reality and social change. On the ground of his perspective, we reviewed one by one his empirical studies. Finally, we discussed how to reappropriate Bellah's works, especially focusing to his writings related to Asia. Summarizing the findings of this study, first of all Bellah's works provide us to important intellectual resources for understanding empirically the interrelation of religious reality(religious symbolics and its meaning) and social change. But Bellah's Asian study has limited implications in that it contain measure originated to the theory of religious evolution which estimate negatively the diverse way and varieties of interactions between religion and social development in Asia.

Richard Sennett's discourses provide us with the view of not only the personal consequences of change in the nature of work and life but also their effects during the flexible capitalism. He takes up the corrosion of character as moral dimension of a person's identity and the flexibilities and uncertainties of current working life are eroding the integrity of the self, the sense of voluntary loyalty to employer and the motivated responsibility for their mission. This article, in response to “withdrawal of the people in the middle” lamenting the fall of public man, argues that urban residents and workers are constantly remaking public space of cities and redefining the human character through their lived experience of craftsmanship and collaboration. Following post-Richard Sennett research, this article questions the insistence on a traditional welfare state, which is competing “counter-publics and counter-adult development,” and blurring of self and public. In conclusion, Sennett's arguments for revitalizing public man over meritocracy and private gossips reveal the confirmation of futuristic model of better society, suggesting new forms of “firefly citizenship” and offering new critical arenas of sociology.

This paper is a preparatory study to develop a person evaluation scale based on Choe Han-ki’s person evaluation theory [Chek-in theory] that is useful in Korean society. For this, we extracted firstly several items which compose the person evaluation categories from Chek-in theory of Choe Han-ki, and made an empirical research for the Korean and Chinese college students through questionnaire translated to the contemporary usage. As a result, we could find that both of Korean and Chinese college students regarded virtue of mind, mental power, upright behavior as important categories, and considered knowledge, appearance, and social condition as relatively unimportant ones. Particularly, both of Korean and Chinese collage students look upon social condition as least important. We could also find that the Korean and Chinese college students stressed more on learned morality and moral behavior than natural gift and personal talent. In other words, they prefer ‘a moral person’ to ‘distinguished person’. This result shows that the traditional categories of person evaluation are still available to the young generation. And the fact that no wide variation existed in importance awareness according to demographic character suggested to the universal applicability of this scale.

In modern cities and architectures, succeeding to tradition means that we have to understand the political, social and cultural thoughts in the time they were built, rebuilt and restored through various ideologies as well as direct and sensible visual relations. It is time to discuss the meaning of Dancheong colors' emotional instead of concluding it as a simple exposure of obangsaek, five colors of directions. The study will interpret a purpose of physiological color through Dancheong which vary to eumyang and ohaeng and five elements and a natural friendly life style of korean people and conform to visibility of a person and. It puts together how the emotion of our race takes place as the social ideology value through this color. The feeling expression of the color to be applied to the modern architecture and illustration tries to be discussed as the thoughtful value of the information oriented society. Dancheong emotion of korean traditional building not only stayed in history but also coexists with modern architectures in cities at this moment. It is important to recognize its value in social thinking which can be reinterpreted by using new information.

When an epidemic occurs, political turmoil and economic crisis also occurs, sometimes, social structure is also changing. This epidemic began systematically managed at the national level in Europe since the 19th century, Cholera has a pivotal role. Cholera has brought a tremendous human and economic damage, leading worldwide. Pandemic is still prevalent in the world today. Cholera that was first introduced to Choson Society resulted in great damage when 1821. Choson people damaged greatly because there hasn’t this disease before. Since 1821, the government has become entangled in chaotic systems epidemic human and material losses, as well as rampant as ever since the Japanese occupation from Cholera. After Independence of Korea, cholera continually occurred. In 1969, El Tor typed cholera hit the west coast of the epidemic resulted in significant damage on a national scale. The following year, in 1970, Doubts that virus-inflow plan was raised from North Korea. The human body is a biological entity, yet social. Power of the modern form of life after the power is governed by a body to monitor and ensure its legitimacy and to preserve the life saving. This is shown in the country from managing the body of the people, the technology, the discipline of life. Power is displayed through the control and inspection, the space segment, statistics, public health system. In the 1960s, Korea was period spur to economic development. This time was a political confrontation with North-South Korea, The ultimate goal is reconstruction of the country. The health system was also improved. laws and regulations related to social security was reorganized. However, the infrastructure for drinking water hygiene was still lack. And health resources such as medicines and health related personnel were worse. In 1969, cholera occurs. Political turmoil and issue of security were engaged at this time such as the withdrawal of US forces in Korea. For this reason, the scale of the damage is bigger. Where the damage was bigger in rural areas did not have the bio-political power of the government. This paper looked for the response of 1969 public health situation when cholera diffusion with Foucault’s bio-political power and this limitation in Korea.
